Traditional Thai Massage

Most of the masseuse’s at Chang Thai Massage & Spa have received their training and certificates in Thailand. Traditional Thai Massage is an ancient healing therapy 2500 years old. It is still part of Thailand’s medical system due to its healing properties at both the emotional and physical levels. It is a therapy for healing, health & transformation. Traditional Thai Massage also helps to increase flexibility, relieve muscular & joint tension and balance the body’s energy system. This is all accomplished by applying gentle pressure with the hands and feet as well as a variety of stretching movements.

Traditional Thai massage uses no oils or lotions and is unlike typical western-type massages. You are not lying on a massage bed while a massage therapist kneads your muscles and pressure points. There is constant body contact between the masseuse and you, but rather than only rubbing on muscles, the body is compressed, pulled, stretched and rocked. The concept of metta (loving kindness), based on Buddhist teachings, is an integral part of this practice. You will wear loose, comfortable clothing and lie on a firm massage mattress.

The massage generally follows designated lines (“sen”) in the body. Your legs and feet can be used to position the body or limbs. In other positions, hands fix the body, while the feet do the massaging. A full Thai massage session may include rhythmic pressing and stretching of the entire body. This may include pulling fingers, toes, ears, cracking knuckles, walking on the recipient’s back, by palm-press, thumb-press, fingers-press and forearm-press in many different positions. There is a standard procedure and rhythm to the massage, which the masseuse will adjust to fit your situation and/or condition.
